The Nuremberg Trials and Their Legacy

The Nuremberg Trials and Their Legacy

An online exhibition from The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Jewish Museum Berlin: What we won’t show you...

Jewish Museum Berlin: Online Showcase

What we won’t show you...

The objects a museum displays are significant. But what museums won’t show you can be equally revealing. In these film clips, staff of the Jewish Museum Berlin talk about what you won’t see, thereby shedding light on German-Jewish life, on collecting, restoring, presenting as well as on ethical questions and political debates.

Kristallnacht: The November 1938 Pogroms

Kristallnacht: The November 1938 Pogroms

On November 9, 1938, the Nazis unleashed a wave of pogroms against Germany’s Jews. In the space of a few hours, thousands of synagogues and Jewish businesses and homes were damaged or destroyed. This event came to be called Kristallnacht (“Night of Broken Glass”) for the shattered store windowpanes that carpeted German streets.

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has produced an online exhibition featuring eye witness accounts, documents & images.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the few church leaders who stood in courageous opposition to the Fuehrer and his policies. To honor his memory, the Church Relations department of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum asked Victoria Barnett to write an essay about Bonhoeffer spanning the years from the rise of Nazism until his death in the Flossenbürg concentration camp in 1945.

Over the past 50 years, many Christians have been engaged in the process of reexamining the role of the Church in Germany during the Nazi era. What has become evident in this undertaking is the depth of the chasm between the ideals the Church had always set for itself and the way it responded to the brutalization of the German government under Adolf Hitler.
